A game produced at APU by Noah Remis. In a prototype class, with assigned themes, mechanics, and tools. The theme for the week was Nostalgia, where we had to bring up something from the past. There were many different directions I could have gone with that, such as retro games or maybe ancient civilizations, but I chose to do WW2 because while it was and still is a terrible period in our history, I felt it was something that no matter who played it, they would still be familiar with. The mechanic for the game was: 10 seconds. It meant that the game had to be fully playable within 10 seconds of starting. This was extremely limiting, I couldn’t have a super detailed story about WW2. Instead, I had to figure out a way for people to “relive” the war within 10 seconds of starting the game. Finally, the tool for this game was Twine or Twinery.org. We had to design a game using Twine which is an open-source tool for designing interactive fiction using web pages. This meant the player would have to click through the game using specific links provided on each page of text. The War ended up becoming a short story of what it might have been like for people during that time, where they could volunteer to join the army or they could also be drafted into the army and being sent out to battle.
